"Landslide"
(What the song means, straight from the author’s…uh, mouth or lips?!)
Wish I really had a broad background/exposure about Fleetwood Mac especially my fave song’s author, Stevie Nicks,I could only regret not being born when their band was a hype. Nonetheless, it’s so nice to know that the band was a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Even my ultimate musician-crush Eric Claptop was once a part of the band. I know that many people would agree that this song (Landslide) at par, is one of the best songs in the music history. I even heard from a DJ (local radio station) when they played Dixie Chick’s version of the song, that the song, whether it’s Eric Clapton’s, Dixie Chicks’ or Smashing Pumpkins’s version, simply rocks and stands out as one of the best written piece of all time. Thus, just plain listening to it would make your heart aches and your mind wonders — how could a natural phenomenon such as avalanche would have so much heart in it to be converted to a song (disregarding the actual fatalities and damages it’d cause).
My God, and the song was written in FIVE MINUTES! Whew! Ang galing talaga ni Stevie Nicks - talking about girl power!!! Yes, Stevie is a "she". Ironically her masculine name found a feminine name to match it — her other half in Buckingham and Nicks — Lindsey Buckingham, who’s actually a "he" (Magulo? Naguluhan nga den ako, e).
She wrote it a night before her father was operated and many would really think it was for her father. However, she actually wrote it for Lindsey when Lindsey would be joining the Everly Brothers (after Stevie and Lindsey split up as a group). She actually came from a good family (financially-wise)but she really loves music and she was given a 6-month ultimatum by her father to quit music and go back to school. She really worked hard while supporting her passion, but she had gotten to a point where it was like, "I’m not happy. I am tired. But I don’t know if we can do any better than this. If nobody likes this, then what are we going to do? It meant the whole world could tumble around us and the landslide would bring you down. And a landslide in the snow is like, deadly. And when you’re in that kind of a snow-covered, surrounding place, you don’t just go out and yell, because the whole mountain could come down on you.Landslide I wrote on the guitar, and it’s another one that I wrote in about five minutes. But see, when I’m really thinking about something ~ I mean when something’s really bothering me ~ again, the best thing that I can do is go to the music room, or to the office, where I can write. Because once I put it down and I can read it back, and I can think about what I’m saying, then it makes sense to me. When I’m just thinking it in my head, it’s going around and around, and I feel like a little child unable to make a real, substantial decision. And we were talking about our lives… the rest of our lives."
As for me, the reason why I like the song and my own interpretation of it is this : In our lives there would come a time whe we would be fed and give up but you’re still hopeful and tiresome at the same time. There’d be a point where you would really be fixated to someone so much that when that person left you, you’ve nowhere else to go and dunno where or how to start; you would keep loving and building you future with that person even if yoy know that person would be there no more(I’ve been afraid of changing cause I’ve build my life around you). At the back of your mind, even if you know it’s desperate, hopeless and pathetic, you’re still ardently praying and patiently waiting for that person to come back and pull it through together. It’s like being resilient and hopeful despite the most tragic and depressing situations in life had happened to you(If you see my reflection in the snow-covered hill, landslide brought me down).
I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
till the landslide brought me down
Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life
Well, Ive been afraid of changing
cause Ive built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
Im getting older too
Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe the landslide will bring it down
(Be resentful of me all you want for displaying the lyrics of the song over and over and over and over again)
